What Is ICO?

ICO (Initial Coin Offering), is fundraising of new cryptocurrency project which new project selling their new crypto token/coin to public at low price or with discount. Just like IPO (Initial Public Offering), a company starts to sell their stock to the public, and investor would like to invest and hopefully make a profit after the price going up in the next day/month/year.

There are few, if any, restrictions on who can participate in an ICO, assuming that the token is not, in fact, a security. And since you're taking money from a global pool of investors, the sums raised in ICOs can be astronomical. A fundamental issue with ICOs is the fact that most of them raise money pre-product. This makes the investment extremely speculative and risky. The counter argument is that this fundraising style is particularly useful (even necessary) in order to incentivize protocol development.

A new crypto project opening ICO because they need investor to invest their capital and used it for developing their project. There is 2 cap form in ICO project, Softcap and Hardcap
Softcap is a cap that shows how much capital they need to work their main project. Investor's capital used as main capital to work their project.
Hardcap is a cap that show how much capital they need to developing their project as their roadmap and used for project continuity.
 
Now ICO recently become good choice for investing capital, because Cryptocurrency was a world trending topic on late 2017. There are so many new crypto project that appear on this early 2018, especially china crypto project. If you imagine, a new token from price 0,00001 ETH and then moving up in 1 year to 0,001 ETH, so it was 100x profit of our capital. I can say if ICO really really good choice if you want to investing your capital, but you must read about their vision, roadmap, team, etc to make sure the project is seriously at working to reach their goals. You need good analytic by reading their whitepaper.
